Evaluation
I feel like in my video installation clearly communicated my story though my footage and the 16mm footage. I feel like in my installation the story line is easy to follow and that they know exactly the memory I’m trying to present.
My target audience was young adult and art students. I think my video was a appropriate for my target audience, because seeming as my audience has gone through the stage of being at primary school, they can reflect and think about the memories they had when they where younger. I feel like because I choose an older audience it made it easy for them to connect with story line that I had.
My original intentions was to create a video installation showing a memory of my past and to make the audience feel, a connection with the video so they could think of there past.
In my edits I used the split screen technique to symbolise 2 eyes and what they saw. In my edit I didn’t have any sound with all the found 16mm footage so I got a lot of ambiance sounds. Like kids playing and busy streets sounds to include in my installation to help build effect. I also speeded up some footage to make my video shorter and so the footage could be shown in a short space of amount of time.
When I finished my video installation I made a few people watch it. I got a mixture of different responses. For example some thought it was strange, weird and didn’t really understand what they were watching which made them feel “confused” it also made some people feel uncomfortable. However others really liked it and thought it was really unique the way the video was put together they especially liked the split screen. they also said it really made them feel like it was school. They also thought that it was really intelligent the way I used the colour red to create the symbolical meaning of blood and the way I incorporated the ambiance sounds with the video.
If I could have improved on anything I would have included more split screen because I felt like the split screen really made the video come to life and bring more feeling to it I also thought it was very interesting to look at. I would have also included a bit more of my own footage so that when my footage was show in the installation It would look more natural when played with the 16mm footage I also feel that I should have gotten a lot more red footage to build on the symbolic meaning of blood. I also feel that I should have checked the sound because in some parts on my installation the sound was really loud over all I feel like my installation looked really impressive and that the quality of the 16mm was good and clear.

VIDEO INSTALLATION PROPOSAL -EMMA

VIDEO INSTALLATION PROPOSAL

My video installation will be called “Pain of School”, it will be about a memory I have of when I was a child and I got hurt at my primary school whilst I was playing a game of IT. In the video installation I will try and convey what happened that day using found footage and footage that I will film. In my video installation I will be showing my memory once then repeating it over and over but this time deleting some footage and it will be seen like a loop by having this loop I will symbolise how memories can be so vivid when recent but as time goes by details to memory can fade and only the things can be remembered.

My video installation is intended to make people have a connection with the feelings I was trying to portray in the video. My primary audience would be people who like abstract art and video installations. My installation will be aimed for adults age from 20-35 and college students that are learning about video installation. I also feel that youth would also benefit form watching my video because they would have more of an understanding of what video installation. My installation can be for higher class and middle class people.

The aim for my video installation is to portray my memory that I had of an incident and to help the audience feel a connection to the footage and in some way can relate, but I also want to make the audience feel uncomfortable and not really like what they are seeing.

I plan my video installation to be a maximum of 3 minutes long. I plan my exhibition space to be inside the TV studio with fake grass on the floor and pictures of trees on the walls I plan my video installation to played on an old TV screen to show to symbolise that my memory is in the past.

I will also have my installation show some split screens in the split screens I will have the same footage be played at the same time. I will do this so it can thought as to eyes seeing what’s happening and it can portray my point of view the memory. Also I will involve of loop of video but with parts of the video missing the loop play 3 or 4 times gradually loosing footage and at the end it will show only the main footage to symbolise the fact that memories are more vivid when just happened but as you get older you lose the detail to it and just remember the main things that happened on the day.

The style of approach I will use is abstract. My installation will not involve any music because I want it to convey a normal day so instead I will involve sounds of things going on around them like children playing, busy street sounds and a child crying I will include a silence to build tension.

My filming of my found footage will be on a Thursday and filming of my non-footage will be filmed on Tuesday then I will edit my installation on a Friday ready to premiere my installation on the 16th December and make the deadline that’s the 17th December.
